[PODCAST TRANSCRIPT]
Hello everyone, I’m Savannah Alalia and welcome to the latest episode of High Functioning Human podcast, where you connect to yourself as a high-functioning human.
Today, I’ve been inspired to talk about creativity from the great quote by Pablo Picasso, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” This statement resonates with me deeply because I believe that keeping joy and play in your life is as essential an exercise to remain vital as you age.
When I speak about creativity, I mean this beyond just the traditional arts and craft. It’s about expressing your inner self, allowing your authentic spirit to brighten the world and enrich the connections you make. Embracing artistic expression means that your interactions are imbued with more colour and joy, which are crucial aspects of being what I call a High Functioning Human. When you’re in a state of flow of true creativity allows you to show up in the world as your true self, to bring your individuality into all that you do, and to really channel that energy into creating a life that you love.
Self care is a huge part of this, because when your energy dips or your health wavers, the first sacrifices are often the activities that bring you to joy. So as you focus on your day to day essentials, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut and lose your connection to your inner spark. Think about the last time that you felt truly alive and vibrant. Was there a splash of creativity involved? I know when you’re busy, free time to paint or draw might seem hard to come by. I personally love to sing in a choir, and I do so when I can. But when I’m too busy to fit this into my schedule, I try to integrate creativity into everyday tasks, like singing in the car. When you’re cooking dinner, turn it into a culinary experiment with new flavours or ingredients. Or experiment with your outfits so that every time you see yourself in the mirror, you get a buzz from a pop of colour.
Keeping the energy and zest in your life has to become an active choice. If you’re looking to rekindle your inner artist, consider dedicating time specifically to self care. This goes beyond relaxation, and it’s really about creating mental and physical space for your creativity to flourish. In reality, there will be times in your life where the everyday or the mundane takes priority, and that’s okay too. But if you have a few small things that you can give yourself, like a touchstone for your inner child to remind yourself that your creative personality is ready to shine through, it will help keep the colour even in the greyest of days. So for those of you who need a structured approach, I’ve distilled essential practices from my comprehensive programs like [Your Intuitive Life] into the [Weekend Retreat Kit]. This mini program is designed to help you clear the clutter from your mind and surroundings, setting the stage for your creative energies to flow freely and creatively, starting to paint the picture of what your life could be in a reality.
As we wrap up today, remember Picasso’s challenge to us all to create and to live creatively, keeping the artist within us alive and active.
