Great post. Some time ago I wrote a post (for business people) about how a great novel will improve one’s powers of empathy and help us relate better to others. I’d also choose Dickens, “Bleak House” being the one that really does it for me. One of the key messages is that all of us are connected and that we cannot escape the society of which we are a part (so we need to work together for the common good). Page 1, the fog envelops us all, you cannot escape it! Tom Wolfe, “Bonfire of the Vanities” is a modern Bleak House.
