WELLNESS EXHAUSTION

[PODCAST TRANSCRIPT]

Hello everyone, I’m Savannah Alalia and welcome to the latest episode of the High Functioning Human podcast, where you connect to yourself as a high functioning human.

Today, we’re tackling a topic that is particularly close to my heart and admittedly a complex challenge for me at the same time. In the last few years, as I’ve brought my work into the online space, aiming to help and reach more people, I have become increasingly aware of the overwhelming amount of insincerity flooding this space. It often leads to what I term wellness exhaustion, where the relentless floods of half-hearted advice cause many to dismiss some even things that are like valuable information.

It’s a bit like the boy who cried wolf scenario in the wellness world. And if you’ve watched any of my earlier blogs or heard any of my podcasts, you’ll remember how I always start by saying there’s no guru except the guru inside you. The reason I emphasise this time and time again is because amidst the cacophony of wellness marketing, the most crucial voice, the one that truly knows what’s best for you, really is your own. And this is why my message has evolved into becoming a High Functioning Human.

It’s about tuning into your body and understanding the unique messages that it’s sending you – how it’s talking to you – rather than just following the crowd or the latest fad. With buzzwords flying around literally every single day and every other Instagram post being a wellness ad, it’s hard to know who to trust or what to trust. And the truth is, many who preach wellness in reality fail to practise what they’re preaching, and they dilute the potency of the messages that could genuinely help.

It’s vital to look beyond the hashtags and the marketing that people use and look and see. Are they living the messages that they’re actually sharing? As with any scam, the people most likely to fall for these fads are the people most in need of a fix. And this, again, is why the whole situation is so complex. And today, I want to look at some ways in which you can really learn to filter the noise when it comes to wellness information on the Internet.

So, let’s start by educating yourself. Understanding the basics of nutrition, exercise and mental health can really help you sift through the things that are gimmicky. I want you to think about listening to your body. Nobody knows better than you do about what’s happening inside of your body, and if something feels off, then listen to that.

Also, seek out genuine experts. Look for professionals who talk the talk and walk the walk. They should provide evidence-based guidance. They should show you a real commitment to their own health. I, personally, truly believe that successfully navigating wellness is best achieved through community, through sharing what enriches our lives and what genuinely works.

That’s exactly why I’ve integrated a strong community aspect into all of my programs. So, what strategies or habits have proven most effective in managing your wellness? Have you been part of a wellness community that significantly influenced your life? I’d love for you to share your stories.

Your insights do more than help others. They also fortify our collective journey to becoming High Functioning Humans.

Remember, trust your instincts. Follow your intuition because the world needs your voice and the magic that it brings to us all. Jump on my mailing list to stay reminded and connected to your intuition. Plus the special things that I really do only share in email.
