[Ponder This] Mothers Make The World Go Round – A Love Letter To Mothers

If every woman and birthing parent suddenly refused to have any more children, society as we know it would cease to exist in less than 100 years.

Hear me out on this one. I was thinking about Mother’s Day this week, and it dawned on me that mothers hold the legacy of humanity in their hands with their actions and habits.

Mothers, you play many powerful roles – entrepreneurs, wives, lovers, and friends. You give of yourself in many ways and, historically, you have created the feeling of a loving home with the menial (but very meaningful) tasks that keep everything going. Cooking, cleaning, shopping, dog walks, washing, ironing, the social calendar, childcare, school runs – the list could go on and on and on. And now you often do all of these things plus working or running your businesses.

You are a supernatural force that keeps the world turning, and you give the foundation to each new generation. Yet sometimes, the woman in the middle of all the to-ing and fro-ing can get lost and forget herself in the equation.

Today, now, this is a reminder for all the women out there, a reminder that you deserve time, too. You are worthy. Choose to honour and look after yourself because you are the very real power taking humankind to the next frontier.

No grand gestures or great acts define you as this. But in the day-to-day, it is the small, loving habits, consistently in motion that define the world.

Even if we have yet to meet, I know you are amazing and beautiful. And even if we are far away from each other, know I am honouring you.

Without you, your care and nurturing, humankind would be much more human-unkind. The values and nourishment you give to your friends, partners, and children give direction to the path of society.

Connect and surround yourself with others who inspire you to stay vibrant and make you laugh. Find what brings you happiness, express yourself and feel free – your ‘kind’ is what dissolves ‘unkind’ in the world. You are the heart of your home and of what the world will become.

Treat this as a reminder to honour yourself as a woman and to actively honour the women in your life: your friends, mother,  daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, grandmothers. I am sure a gentle nudge from you will mean the world to them and will inspire them to keep on loving.

Send a line to reach out and say, ‘Hi’ or, ‘Thanks for being there’ or, best of all, a meaningful ‘I see you – I love you.’

These anonymous extraordinaries that are the world’s mothers deserve to be honoured for more than just one day a year.

Mums lead us, one loving act at a time, one person at a time, to the next frontier. (Sounds a bit like something from Star Trek, but it’s true.)

I would love to hear how a woman in your life has influenced or inspired you. Or, tell me how you inspire and nurture yourself!

Big love to all the mothers out there. Thank you for all you do, seen and unseen – you are so valuable to the world and humanity’s future.

Much love,

Savannah

PS If you have yet to do so, call your mum and tell her you love her!
